Karate

Karate is a traditional martial art that originated in Okinawa. Though sometimes mistaken as simply a sport, Karate is ultimately a highly effective method of practical self-defense and path for personal development.

Karate, or more correctly, Karate-Do translates to "Empty Hand Way". It is not only an effective method of self-defense, but a philosophy. To have empty hands is to be empty of any weapons, and any evil or selfish intentions. Students of karate are expected to maintain honest character, integrity and to only use their physical abilities in the event of an emergency. We seek conflict resolution. Karate begins and ends with courtesy.

We offer beginner classes for adults, teens and children as young as 3 years of age throughout the week.

Judo

Judo is a traditional martial art/sport from mainland Japan. Judo translates to English as the "Gentle" or "Natural Way". Evolving from the grappling art of traditional Jujitsu, Judo focuses heavily on throwing and holding techniques, and emphasizes use of the heavy Judo gi that participants wear in class. Although striking and small joint manipulation are not allowed in the sport aspect of Judo, there are also self-defense elements taught in our classes.

We offer Judo once a week on Wednesday nights for ages 7 and up.

Tai Chi and Wellness

Tai Chi Ch'uan is a Chinese martial art that focuses the entire body, much like Karate, but emphasizes very slow movement in form practice. Practiced by many for its health benefits, our classes also include self-defense breakdowns of the forms that help the students understand and memorize the movements. Tai Chi is offered once a week on Monday nights.

Taught by Sensei Marvin Massey, our this course focuses on health and wellness of not only the body, but the mind and spirit. Especially in today's fast paced, and incredibly convenient society, exercise, sleep and appropriate eating habits are all crucial to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Sensei Massey spends the first few minutes of the course educating on these subjects, emphasizing holistic and natural health before form practice.
